Roof Safety

4/8/2020 (Permalink)

When you own a business, there are several maintenance issues that you fear when it comes to the property you own. One of the worst issues you could face is roof damage. A damaged roof can lead to water damage to ceilings and floors, damaged merchandise or technology, and even worse, it could lead to injuries for employees and customers. So what can you do to protect your business’s roof?

  • Have the Roof Inspected
    • Of course, you will be able to tell if there is something obviously wrong with your roof. However, the only real way to tell if you have any structural damage to that area is to call in a professional. Not only will a roofing professional know what to look for, but they will also know how to inspect the area safely.
  • Make Small Repairs Now
    • By making small repairs when the weather is good and you have the time, you reduce the possibility that those small problems will become bigger problems. By not putting off the small repairs, you will save yourself a great deal of extra work in the future.
  • Check for Drainage Issues
    • Roofs are built to be able to drain excess water and debris from them to keep them structurally sound. If there are drainage issues on the roof of your building, it could lead to the extra weight that could cause leaks, collapses, and possibly mold if the water and debris sit for too long. So make sure that draining areas are clear of anything that could cause problems.
  • Seal Up Roof Protrusions
    • Things that stick up from inside the building—such as skylights, ventilation systems, and cooling systems can lead to problems if they aren’t sealed correctly. This is less likely if they are properly sealed.
